Indonesian Ghost Stories

Hotel Ghost

On my first trip to Balai, Karimun Island in Indonesia, I believe I saw a ghost.

Balai Island had nothing touristy to offer to us, it's just like Batam, but less commercial. The attraction there for us was one thing—girls.

My three friends and I had a girl each for the night's companionship, and we were sitting at the hotel balcony for drinks and fun. The night was a fabulous one—we drank, joked, fooled around, and drank some more. We only stopped drinking when the girls began to retire to our rooms one after another; the drinks had been too much for them.

We too stopped drinking and left for our rooms. Once in my room, I undressed and jumped into bed. I caressed my girl's back and made her active again. We had loads of fun with each other. I remember I only slept at 3 o'clock in the morning or so.

In my sleep, I heard a strange humming sound. It sounded almost like someone was crying or praying. The sound persisted for so long that it brought me out of my sleep. When I opened my eyes, I was shocked to see an old woman squatting on a chair near the foot of the bed. Her face was so filled with wrinkles that I couldn't really see much facial features. It was as if I was looking at a big ball of crumpled paper that had been shaped into a human face. It was truly horrendous.

Startled and in panic, I tried to get out of bed. But I couldn't even though I was struggling violently. The strange thing was, I saw that I had two sets of arms and legs. One set was struggling while the other remained stationary. It was as though I could see my spirit limbs moving while my physical limbs were paralysed.

Looking at the foot of the bed, between the two pairs of legs, I saw the woman lift up her hand. She waved her forefinger at me, as if reprimanding me or warning me about something. I tried to scream but no voice came out of my mouth. I struggled and struggled, and I could see my spirit limbs kicking and waving desperately, but I still could not move.

Suddenly, the woman raised her upper lip and showed me her red teeth. Her expression turned, she became angry and hissed at me. After that, she vanished!

“Wah!” I exclaimed as I opened my eyes and jumped.

Cringing at the edge of the bed, I heaved to catch my breath. My girl beside me was still sound asleep, oblivious to what was happening to me.

What the hell was that? I wondered as I got out of bed slowly and walked to the bathroom.

As minutes passed, the ordeal began to seem more like a dream. I had to keep reminding myself that what I had experienced and seen was not a dream, it was real.

I hope someone reading this would be able to tell me who or what that woman is. Is she some kind of a vampire, demon, or just a lost human spirit? What did she mean by waving her finger and hissing at me? I'm afraid, but I'm trying not to let it bother me.

Harry, Sales Engineer.
